Where Do We Belong?

We've been to many places,
And have done so many things,
Like we ate a peice of bacon one day,
Then chewed on some yellow string.
We met so many people,
Some now far away from here,
That sometimes we got scared and skitish,
Then we tried to disappear.

Now we have finally landed in one place,
And have been there quite a while,
We now know our owners love us,
Because they seem very happy to see our tiny smiles.

We finally have a home now,
That is suited just her, him, and me
We're finally feeling happy,
As happy as we can be.

  1. Well written there Mary. I love how you use the gestures like 'tiny smiles' and 'tried to disappear'. Very good description. One area I am a tad worried about and was wondering if this poem was in reference to your dogs is where you write 'we now know our owners love us'. That part of your poem can be misconstrued to an area I don't think you meant.
You'll be a marvelous minstrel there Mary!

  2. it's all about the dogs. the poem was written shortly after the dogs were adopted from various places in calgary. they all came from different places and backgrounds but i think what brought them emotionally home is the fact that we provided them a chance to feel safe and loved.
