Thank you Lola

Thank you Lola for being there,
From the time my brother and I was an infant,
With such small and tiny hands.
You taught us to love all of God’s children,
By showing a kind, supportive, and caring hand.
Thank you Lola
for teaching us about God,
and his kind, spirited ways.
That is why we chose to obey HIM though our actions,
Each and every day.
Thank you Lola
For my dad,
You taught him to be a kind and caring
Family man,
That his wife and kids can depend on
To lend a loving hand.
Thank you Lola,
For everything you did to help us be all that we can be,
Now it is our turn to help you enter God’s loving arms,
So you finally can be free.

This poem was written in honor and in celebration of my grandma's life. Lola means Grandma in Filipino. She was born on June 4 1917 and died on November 19 2010. She will be forever loved and missed by myself, my family, and our friends.

I Am Free!

At the beginning the clouds were dark and grey,
The sun was not out every day,
I was weak and I was weeping,
Because the things that we were being done to me were extremely demeaning,
Then one day I was forced to fight,
To fight for my freedom,
To fight for my right.
It was not an easy fight to complete,
For kept experiencing the feeling of stress and defeat,
The battle took a while to pursue,
But I knew it was something I must do.
There were lots of ups and downs,
But I decided to smile and push on instead of frown,
Because I learned I wasn't fighting just for me,
I was fighting for everyone who wants to be free.
