Where Do We Belong?

We've been to many places,
And have done so many things,
Like we ate a peice of bacon one day,
Then chewed on some yellow string.
We met so many people,
Some now far away from here,
That sometimes we got scared and skitish,
Then we tried to disappear.

Now we have finally landed in one place,
And have been there quite a while,
We now know our owners love us,
Because they seem very happy to see our tiny smiles.

We finally have a home now,
That is suited just her, him, and me
We're finally feeling happy,
As happy as we can be.

Across The Ocean

I live across the ocean,
A world away from you,
Our world may seem so different,
But I want the same things you want too.

My goal is for peace, joy, hope and love around the world,
Just like yours is probably each and every night
The only thing is to me just praying doesn’t make
my world seem right,

For me I have to do something,
That is good for others that are a world away from me,
Then at least I can hope I am making a difference,
In achieving my goal as great as it may be.

Why I chose to sponsor you,
Is so you can be all that you want to be,
Peace, joy, hope and love are why I chose to sponsor you.
So that someday you and your future
generation will finally be set free.

I Am Greatful

I am grateful for lots of things, the good things and the bad,
I am grateful for the fun times,
that my entire family has had.
I am grateful for having my mom and dad,
more then they'll ever know,
because they love my brother and me so much that their love just flows.
I am grateful for my younger brother,
who lives far away from here,
Who takes his time to board a plane to go back home
2 times every year.
I am grateful for my grandma,
who is helpful and smart,
I bet when she was working as an RN
she showed her patients kindness from the heart.
I am grateful for my dog,
who friendliness knows no bounds.
We are lucky as a family to have our dog around.
I am grateful my entire family,
they are kind, smart, and brave.
I know I am lucky to be with them,
that is why I chose to behave.

Staying Or Going

I remember at camp when I decided to stay,
The sun was shining out one day,
While children were laughing and having so much fun,
dancing outside in the sun,
The looks on their faces reminded me of beautiful flowers,
having fun for hours and hours.
The adults were having lots of fun to,
dancing under the sky so baby blue.
The fun they had was such a pleasure to see,
that I now have it stored forever inside my memory.
I enjoy the memory of that day,
watching everyone laugh and play.
As I watch everyone having fun,
I sat there and debated under the warm bright sun,
I was homesick as you may know,
but after a few minutes I decided to let my homesickness go.

My Voice

My voice was a present given from God to me,
It tells you all the things I need to tell you,
So that you can help me be all that I can be,
I communicate by using a voice to cry, laugh, whisper and shout,
All the wonderful and terrible things I need to get out,
Now all I need is someone I trust to listen to me,
So I can express my ideas, thoughts, and feelings,
And finally be free,
So can you please listen to me with an open mind and an open heart,
So I can say everything I want and need to,
Right from the start,
I need to feel safe you see,
From all the harm and criticism that can be directed at me.

Time Is Precious

A laugh, a cry,
A hug, a giggle,
A smile, a heart,
A twinkle, and a tickle,
Those things I miss,
Like the little child's kiss,
As time goes by,
How I wish I spent more time,
Reading to the child a little nursery rhyme,
Fun time, sad time,
The time seemed to fly,
Like an airplane speeding a long the bright blue sky,
The child's joy is now a memory,
Her smiles and kisses,
Are now a legacy,
The joy of being that child's caregiver should have been really cool,
But you know what?
At least I know now that the little child is now growing up and
going to school.

If Disability Were A Person

If disability were a person,
I'd be kind of glad,
Because then I can ask it many things like,
"why it sometimes makes some people feel like
they should be extreemly frustrated and mad.

If disability were a person,
I'd tell it to come with me,
So we can go teach others,
and finally be free.

If disability were a person,
I'd say to the disability "thank you because you
made people like me more creative, compassionate,
and open minded just by being you."

(note this poem is incomplete because I am writing this with a group of tallented people for Freak Out 2009. this is just my contribution.)

Thank You Uncle

Thank you uncle for being a compassionate and caring man,
Who touched many family and friends with a kind and supportive hand.
Your zest for life is an inspiring thing that guides through our days.
We will miss you and always love you in many different ways.

Note: I wrote this poem last week to help my friend start writing one for her uncle who passed away last Thursday. While I wrote this small poem I felt my uncle Fred presence. He passed away in 2001. I hope this poem honors both my friends uncle and mine. They are both greatly missed and loved by everyone who knew them.

I AM A PERSON

I am a person, who happens to have a disability,

A lot of people see me as one who has no capability.

I am a person, who has got good caring heart,

Who has remained unseen right from the start.

I am a person who has finished school,

where I learned that teachers and peers see me as a fool.

I am a person who feels hurt every day,

Because people say mean things and smack me out of the way.

I am a person who deserves to be fed,

Not sent away every night hungry and off to bed.

I am a person whose sexual boundaries have been broken leaving a void inside me,

That has kept me as a prisoner instead letting me be free.

I am a person who deserves to be treated with dignity, honor, and respect,

Instead I feel like I am a reject.

I am a person who feels broken into pieces like is a puzzle,

because the words inside me had been muzzled.

I am a person who deserves to be treated well,

Instead I am living inside a jail cell.

I am a person who needs to be heard.

Yet no one has stopped and cared enough to listen to any of my words.

Chicago: The Windy City

The windy city has lots of fun things to see,
Like bunnies wanting to eat the veggies in my uncle’s garden
instead of running free.

The windy city has got a tall interesting building called Willis Tower,
That has an elevator that goes up to 103 floors in minutes, not hours.

The windy city has got a place called Navy pier right near Lake Michigan
Full of stores and near down town…in fact it’s a place I want to see again.

The windy city has got a lot of world class museums,
One of them had everything  I wanted to see
From  4D movies to marine animals that have been rescued
and are almost ready to be free.

The windy city was a lot of fun to be in,
But what made the trip memorable weren’t just the interesting places we visited,
Or the fun things we did
No what made the trip fun and memorable is..
The time we got to spend with our family and new friend,
in fact it is the best thing that we did.
